Pacific IGF 2023 - August 28-29, Brisbane - Australia

The Pacific Internet Governance Forum (PacIGF) 2023 was held from August 28-29, 2023 and was co-located with APrIGF 2023. Which brought pacific experts from around the region to discuss areas of Internet and cybersecurity matters for the Pacific. Also I was one of the presenters for the Cybersecurity Session representing Samoa.

6th Session of Asia Pacific Information Superhigh Way Steering Committee - Thailand 29th August 2022

The rapid adoption of digital technologies, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, has transformed socioeconomic activities across the Asia-Pacific region. Digital technologies not only generated opportunities for people, but also revealed the digital divide. In response, the United Nations Secretary General has called for global actions through the implementation of the “Roadmap for Digital Cooperation: implementation of the recommendations of the High-level Panel on Digital Cooperation”,[1] and “Our Common Agenda”, in particular the seventh commitment to “Improve digital cooperation”[2], which emphasizes the need to connect all people to the Internet, avoid Internet fragmentation, and protect data, among others.

WSIS - World Summit on the Information Society Forum (Geneva) 30 May - 3 June 2022

The World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2022 represents the world's largest annual gathering of the ICT for development community. The WSIS Forum 2022 started from 15 March onwards in a virtual format with the final week being held physically with enhanced remote participation from 30 May to 3 June 2022 at the ITU Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, under the theme of ICTs for Well-Being, Inclusion and Resilience: WSIS Cooperation for Accelerating Progress on the SDGs. The WSIS Forum, co-organized by ITU, UNESCO, UNDP and UNCTAD, in close collaboration with all WSIS Action Line Facilitators/Co-Facilitators, has proven to be an efficient mechanism for coordination of multi-stakeholder implementation activities, information exchange, creation of knowledge, sharing of best practices and continues to provide assistance in developing multi-stakeholder and public/private partnerships to advance development goals. This Forum will provide structured opportunities to network, learn and participate in multi-stakeholder discussions and consultations on WSIS implementation. The Agenda and Programme of the Forum will be built on the basis of the submissions received during the Open Consultation Process. Furthermore, the 2022 WSIS Forum will provide an opportunity to serve as a platform to track the achievements of WSIS Action Lines in collaboration with the UN Agencies involved and provide information and analyses of the implementation of WSIS Action Lines since 2005

The virtual APTLD80 is co-located with the virtual and hybrid Pacific Internet Governance Forum. The joint event is co-sponsored by the Pacific Chapter of the Internet Society (PICISOC) in partnership with Asia Pacific Top-Level Domain (APTLD), the UN-Internet Governance Forum Secretariat, the University of the South Pacific, Internet Society (ISOC) , Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Internet NZ, and key stakeholders across the Pacific.

PRD1 Accelerate digital transformation in the Pacific, Nov 2, 2020

In recent years, the Pacific has experienced significant progress in increasing international bandwidth (submarine cable and satellite) and domestic broadband access, improving cybersecurity awareness, enhancing emergency telecommunication, building digital skills and introducing digital services. Pacific Islands Countries have also embarked upon digital economy and digital transformation policies, strategies and plans. The ongoing pandemic (COVID-19) has further accelerated the need for accelerating the digital journey as it has significant economic impact (although a large number of Pacific Islands remained unaffected by the disease itself) imposed by travel restrictions.

Building Cyber Security Capability for CERTs/CSIRTs in the Pacific, May 15-18 2018, Tonga The Meeting hosted by the Tongan Cert (Cert.to) with a partnership with APNIC through the APNIC foundation and DFAT Australia in Building Capacity for the Pacific in response to CyberSecurity related Issues within the region. It saw a group of Pacific professional experts shares an understanding of Cybersecurity awareness topics and how to better protect the internet for the users of the region.
